Marisa graduated from Northeastern University with a major in political science and a minor in business administration in 1983. She earned her law degree from Boston University School of Law. Marisa received her mediation training at The Harvard Law School Mediation Program and received advanced divorce mediation training from the Community Dispute Settlement Center in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Additionally, she has been trained at the Massachusetts School of Professional Psychology as a Parenting Coordinator in high conflict divorce cases. Marisa has been practicing alternative dispute resolution services for family conflicts, divorce, marital mediation, co-parenting plans and domestic partnerships for 25 years. She is a member of the Massachusetts Council on Family Mediation and the Massachusetts Bar Association.

Marisa is an avid supporter and advocate for organizations providing youth services, as well as animal rescue and protection. She has also served as the founder and director of The Giving Planet, a global peace building enrichment program for teens designed to inspire and empower teenagers worldwide to appreciate their roles as stakeholders in the global community by providing lessons with themes of tolerance, unity, compassion, multicultural understanding, service and global citizenship through dance and music.
